Wow good for Ford. It’s nice to know that finally, muscle cars…well, at least the mustang…can compete against an M3, the benchmark super coupe.

HyPnOTiZeR89 January 27, 2012 at 4:44 PM

So funny that people bash Ford because its getting better and better and there is almost no differents between the two cars.. Bmw isn’t much better, it costs more and thats it, people who have knowledge of cars knows it

HyPnOTiZeR89 January 27, 2012 at 4:46 PM

@hyttekeld BMW costs way more and is a ugly car

hyttekeld January 27, 2012 at 5:10 PM

US test. Mustang Win´s……. Jaaaa right – only in the big fantasy land “USA”
BUY THE BMW

ammoduc January 27, 2012 at 5:11 PM

CLEARLY BIASED.

@GMguy91 and as a Ford fan I applaud GM for bringing back the Camaro in such an awesome way; in many ways it forced Ford to make a better Mustang; competition makes everyone better!

AdverbAdjective January 27, 2012 at 6:50 PM

ls 302 mustang totally obliterates the m3 on the track, for still a fraction of the price

GMguy91 January 27, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Ford….I am impressed. And that is coming from a pretty big Chevy fan. I have heard almost nothing negative about the new Mustang GT. I applaud Ford for making a good car for a reasonable price!

MrRangersfan123 January 27, 2012 at 8:05 PM

you can get a fully loaded mustang with alot of the same features as the m3 for 20 grand less. with bmw you pay for the name. not sayin its a bad car just a little overpriced in my opinion

GTO19020 January 27, 2012 at 8:47 PM

so let me get this straight….the mustang wins in 0-60, 1/4 miles, lateral grip, braking all at a cost of $27000.00 less than the M3…and just because the M3 is .09 sec quicker in a race over a minute long you declare it the winner!? WTF!? That just sounded stupid when I was typing it. Could you possibly have been any more biased? Maybe I can remind you of the $230.00 oil changes or the 5K clutch replacement in the M3. M3 is a nicer car overall, but this is a performance test, base it on that!

@Okay931 ok grits n gravy.

Okay931 January 27, 2012 at 9:58 PM

if i had 60k i would buy the mustang gt n spend the rest on pcp

goguhu January 27, 2012 at 10:41 PM

@e30pimp222 Even if/when the Mustang beat M3 in all performance categories, I would still go for the M3. Nicer leather, steering, feel, looks, interior, warranty, nav, audio … No doubt that Ford cough up to the M3 (so did RS5, C63 AMG, and others). BMW need to step up the game, but the Ford have to be MUCH better performance wise before people that used to get M3 moves … Now BMW have the issue with M5 performance, 3.7 0-60, 12.0 1/4 @ 122mph. They can’t be faster …

AdverbAdjective January 27, 2012 at 10:48 PM

you can take the extra 30k and make the mustang faster than a veyron in the quarter mile

e30pimp222 January 27, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Who wants to pay 28k more for nicer leather seats? What nobody?

DBslowpoke January 27, 2012 at 11:51 PM

Lets face it. The m3 is BMW’s tuned version of the 3 series while the mustang GT is..well a mustang GT. Take the Boss 302 and it would be apples to apples…the BMW…Cant compete. As a matter of fact the stang even beat it out most every test except for that 1/10th on the . Its not that the BMW is junk. The mustang is just that good

FoxbodyDomination January 28, 2012 at 12:04 AM

@PhotonicsKid And if you think comparing a stripped down, track prepped 145 thousand dollar m3 with polycarbonate windows and a 45k road car is apples to apples, then there is no hope for you. The Mustang was NEVER intended to compete with bmw, so quit bringing that crap up. You’re obstinate and delusional. See how most people respond to your comments? With facts and no sense of superiority. Can’t say the same for your sentences that ooze with disdain and aversion for the Mustang and America.

FoxbodyDomination January 28, 2012 at 12:54 AM

@PhotonicsKid Sorry to shit on your bubble, but I’m neither a Mustang fanboy or an American. I am a fan of ANY well built, fun to drive car regardless of its origin or price. You, are a close minded, hypocritical fanboy fool.

acs4llc January 28, 2012 at 1:32 AM

@PhotonicsKid Ford’s spends more in support of SCORE off road and the Baja 1000 motorsports than it has ever on Mustangs teams which btw have secured multiple Triple Crown Grand Am victories, two of them back to back before BMW cried to the FIA to sandbag the Mustangs which they now have.

acs4llc January 28, 2012 at 1:57 AM

@PhotonicsKid Actaully 95 less ft/lbs of torque. If U don’t care about engine life/mpg/emissions then yeah you can gear the thing down to make up for it but there’s no FREE lunch
Mustangs have traditionally been sold with good but not exceptional handling. Those that wanted more had the aftermarket. After all, those that want the ultimate handling anything (M3, Corvette, Porsche) are going aftermarket anyways as nobody does it better. The Boss 302LS is somewhere in the middle… Could be better.

acs4llc January 28, 2012 at 2:14 AM

@PhotonicsKid The M3GTS is banned from the US for its lack of emissons/airbags & non DOT plastic seats/plexi windows. Nevermind that only 250 were made last year and were in excess of $170,000. That’s what you need to compete with a street legal Boss 302 with A/C, stereo, cruise, sound/heat insultation etc???
Awards are given out with zero regard to engine life, mpg or reliability or affordability. That wouldn’t fly in the US plus those Euro awards are closed to US engines not sold in Europe.

PhotonicsKid January 28, 2012 at 2:42 AM

@FoxbodyDomination I dont really have a preference for either Im just smart enough to realize which car is better…..what you are doing is just identifying the best bang for the buck which isnt everything in the world of cars hahah but of course you wouldnt know that since you have mustang tattooed on your forehead. Its okay you dont need to be pissed that the m3 has dominated the mustang for the last 20 years and finally has defeated it, youre just a typical American twat.

PhotonicsKid January 28, 2012 at 3:05 AM

@FoxbodyDomination and speaking of fanboy hahaha youve been fighting for a car that only recently has been great hahaha who is the real loser here typical closed minded person haha FINALLY your beloved mustang is worth while haha only took forever only took studying 26 years of M3 to barely be on par with it haha its okay you can feel sorry for yourself now and if you wanna talk apples and apples then that would include using the m3gts which is the actual track prepped m3.Didnt know of that huh?

FoxbodyDomination January 28, 2012 at 3:30 AM

@gdm991 Unfortunately, the Boss wasn’t out yet.

gdm991 January 28, 2012 at 3:32 AM

I like how they use a base mustang GT for this test. the M3 is what 15k-20k more money?? Why not do this test with the Boss 302 Laguna Seca??? which is still 5k-10k less and would smoke it accross the board because of the factory handling mods…..
