It’s funny how British people have decided to compare a car that’s stripped down for racing against one that costs half as much and is meant for your 16-year-old daughter. Are they aware of that?

That’s no contest at all! The Rustang’s chassis design is over 30 years old, it still has a live axle for Christ’s sake! Maybe if Ford realized it was the 21st Century…

watch?v=ZqbCpdozZEU shows a track laid out to favor straight line speed and high top speed vehicles…shorted the track and add some corners and its still no contest….lotus all the way.

i am also a porsche fan but ON A TRACK the lotus will be faster almost every time…by a wide margin. note the qualifier about being ON A TRACK…seems many have missed that point before replying that the 130k 911 turbo can outrun the lotus in a straight line, which it obviously can.

911 turbo top speed is nearly 200 mph… this supercharged plastic box can’t reach 150mph… my point is: given the space the 911 turbo is way… way faster then the Lotus Exige… don’t get me wrong… i like the agility of the lotus but saying it’s faster then a 911 turbo is just not true. Not metion quality… a 911 turbo will fast every day… anywhere…

They tested them on the same track and your beloved 911 was slower.

Apples and oranges. Lotus $60K Mustang $25k. One of the best handling cars in the world against a grocery getter. Given the choice I would get the Lotus because Ihave no kids and don’t play golf, but the stang is much more practical.

maybe it should’ve been.. ahaha

evilevo420 October 16, 2009 at 6:31 AM

at the end you can see that it ran slower than the evo, when he puts the times up :)
evo ftw lol

evilevo420 October 19, 2009 at 3:02 AM

slower than an evo… no suprise there
i was kind of amazed that a gt mustang held as good as it did
top gear always plays up british cars

sirlonghair October 21, 2009 at 11:46 PM

stepALI October 24, 2009 at 1:52 AM

MatthewKyle89 October 26, 2009 at 12:37 PM

lol the Ford GT isnt made of plastic. just puttin that in there.

MatthewKyle89 October 27, 2009 at 12:56 AM

It was a concord. Making a comparison about british engineering.

machinegunmana October 29, 2009 at 12:23 PM

around a track it certainly is

shadman1911 October 31, 2009 at 4:02 PM

I like it… but it’s not faster then a 911 turbo

machinegunmana November 2, 2009 at 8:23 AM

quicker than an AWD 911 turbo around almost any track for about half the money

odessataity November 4, 2009 at 7:16 AM

TheNorwayBoyz9594 November 7, 2009 at 3:54 AM

don’t think that was a B-1B, that’s bigger and has canards (wiskers).

robbie0507 November 11, 2009 at 2:24 PM

Don’t care how good the Stig is – He’s never going to get the Mustang round the corners!!
Took one of these round Silverstone last year on a track day……
Only thing that came past me was a Nutter in a Catherham !!! HA HA

d0su November 13, 2009 at 1:18 PM

at 5:22, isn’t that a B-1 bomber?

Chauvinisticzero November 13, 2009 at 3:56 PM

Fine example of having more horsepower doesnt make it a better car.

menjivarboca12 November 15, 2009 at 4:34 PM
